THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BRISK TRADING CONTINUED. A large volume of business was done on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, but prices showed signs of unsteadiness at the higher levels. An easing tendency was seen in some of the prominent, stocks, but, the. movement of prices for most, issues was forward. There was little alteration in Government, securities, bul 1037 per cent, bonds eased 5s in a sale at £99 ss. Auckland Harbour Board, 1947, 5J> per cent, debentures were done at £99 10s, and a sale of Mount Albert, 1959, b per cent, debentures at par was reported. The banking section was brisk. Australasias were done at, £9 12s 6d, a train of 16s on the. last Auckland sale a fortnight, ago. Commercials eased another penny in a, sale at lbs Od. New South Wales were done in a late> transaction on Wednesday at. £29, an advance of 5s on .Monday's price. New Zealands moved up threepence in a transaction at. 49s 6cl, and Unions had sale, at £B, an easing of 3s on the last Auckland sale at the end of October. The insurance section was steady. South British were done in the morning at 545, and in the afternoon at 54s 3d.

Further easing was shown bv Golds-brough-Morts, which had sale at. 23s 6d, more being sought at 235. The contributing issue of Auckland Gas had sale at, 17s 2d, while New Zealand Breweries firmed threepence, in a. sale at 33s 6d. Tooth's, however, were easier, business being clone at 20s 6d, while more were available at 20s 9d. Tho miscellaneous section was busy. Colonial Sugars were keenly sought, three sales taking place at £37. Electrolytic Zincs, preference issue, cased slightly in a transaction at 19s 10V1. Farmers Tradings were done at 6s 2d. and the B preference issue changed hands at 12s 6d in a sale reported from Wednesday. Milne and Choyce debentures realised 18s in a sale in the afternoon, and Robinson's Ice Creams were done at. the current rate of 17s. Sharland and Company had sale at 14s 6d. The mining section was fairly steady. Waihis had sale three times, twice at 15s and once at 15s Id. Mount Lyells were done at 20s 6d.

ASHBURTON GAS. The Ashburtori Gas, Coal and Coke Company earned £3350 for the year just ended. 'The directors propose writing £6BO off plant, placing £2OO to and a. dividend of 8 per cent., absorbing '£1920, and leaving £560 to carry forward. The dividend is at the usual rate.
