MEMORIES OF THE WAR.
NAPIER MAN AT LE QUESNOY. HOSPITABLE RECEPTION. [FROM OC R OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] LOXDONV Oct. 3. Mr. C. 11. Wilkie. of Napier, an exmember of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who was wounded at Le Q.uesnoy, recently visited that town to see the graves of comrades buried in the local cemetery. He was received most hospitably by the Mayor and people of Le Quesnov generally. He has since received from Monsieur Emile Vincent, brother of the Mayor and Chef du Cabinet du Ministre du Travail et da at Paris, the following letter:— " My dear Mr. Wilkie, —For the only short time you have spent at Le Quesnov wc keep a pleasant remembrance of your stay among ns. Surely our old fortified town, with its cold sky, looks dull and dreary after your beautiful luxuriant and dreamy fatherland, but I know it is dear to vour heart and you love it.
" Thank you for the most interesting Christmas number you sent me; I snail keep it at, Lo Quesnoy. If any of your country-fellows happen to visit Le Quesnoy, please give them my address: we should be too happy to meet them. t' or we will not forget that you came across the seas to help us in the fight for right and liberty and the coming of peaceand that reminds me of Burns' words:
For a' that, and a' that. It's coming yet for a* that. That man to man. the world o'er. Shall brothers be for a' that! "So goodbye, my dear Mr. ilkie, let us hope we shall see you again. My wife joins me in best wishes and kind regards.— (Signed) Emile Vincent."
