TOWN CLERK RETIRES.

MOUNT ALBERT OFFICIAL. High tributes to the work of Mr. H. Utting, whose ill-health has caused his retirement from the position of town clerk of Mount Albert, after 23 years service to the district, at a farewell gathering of the staff social club yesterday. The borough engineer, Mr. A\. E. Bcgbie, presided, and Mr. M. J. Coyle, first Mayor of the borough, and Mr. A. F. Benuett, another former Mayor, were present. Apologies for absence were r e * ceived from Air. W. F. Stilwell, the pic* sent Mayor, and Mr. L. K. Rhodes and Mr. T. B. Clay, former Mayors. Recalling the early days of Mount Al* bert, Mr. Coyle said Mr. Utting had seen the boi;ough develop from a district with a population of 4500 and a value ot £550.000 in 1908 to one with a population of 21,600 and a value of £5,730.000 m 1931. "During the whole of that progress Mr Utting has been the chief executive officer, and it is a credit to him to know that he has been so intimately connectefl with the development of the district, said Mr. Covle. He then made a presentation of a "silver tea service on an oau tray, suitably inscribed,, and a nionzo reading lamp,* to Mr. and Mrs. Utting.
