STERLING APPRECIATES. CANADIAN DOLLAR LOWER. NEW YORK, Sept. 28. The quotation to-day for cable transfers of sterling closed at 3 dollars 85J cents, as against 3 dollars 81 cents on Saturday. The Canadian dollar closed at 90£ cents, compared with 91£ cents on Saturday and 92£ cents on Friday. STERLING AT MONTREAL. RISE IN QUOTATION. MONTREAL. Sept. 28. The sterling exchange was quoted today at 4 dollars 35 cents, as agninst 4 dollars 20 cents on Saturday. BANK RATE IN HOLLAND. INCREASE TO 3 PER CENT. AMSTERDAM. Sept. 28. The bank rate has been increased from 2 to 3 per cent.
