STOCK EXCHANGE.
POLITICS AFFECT MARKETS. LESS GENERAL ACTIVITY. LONDON, Sept. 2S. The Stock Exchange was less active to-day. There was some profit taking in industrial stocks. Australian and New Zealand funds were irregular, some being easier. The possibility of an early election was much discussed, operators showing a disposition to await developments, and trading consequently was on restricted lines, but the general tone was favourable and steady. Among British funds 4 per cent. Consols rose 10s to £BO 10s, while the 5 per cent, war loan was steady at £93 10s. Treasury bonds were 10s to £1 better, but the 3£ and 4 per cent, conversion loans each lost 10s.
