INFLUENCE MUCH NEEDED. UNITY OF FORCES URGED. The need for increasing activity on the part of tho churches in the face of present-day conditions was stressed in the report of the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations, which was presented at the annual meeting last evcyij iug. The president, liev. G. C. Cruickj shank, presided. : The report, stated that at no time had j it been mole necessary for the influence of the churches to be used to improve j (lie condition of the people and to keep in check detrimental forces. The | outlook on life throughout the world had changed and it was imperative that ! the forces of Christianity should be united. | The I\ev. Lawson Marsh saitl the cotm- : cil had reason for satisfaction in the | recent judgment of Mr. Justice Ilerdman governing Sunday entertainments. The council was strongly opposed to the form of service provided by the Nationalist Association and the judgment hail "cleared the air." It was decided to suppoit the rcsolut lion of the Dunedin council urging the j Government to use every effort to ensure j the success of the forthcoming Disarmament Conference. It was agreed that appropriate messages should be given in the churches on the Sunday nearest to Armistice Day. The following oHiceis were, elected:— President. Rev. \V. Lawson Marsh; vicepresidents, Archbishop Averill, the Rev. G. C. Cruiekshank and the Rev. 15. M. Patchett; lion, treasurer, Mr. 0. W. Burch; lion, secretary, Mr. W. Whitelaw; executive committee, Rev. Dr. North, Rev. Dr. H. Ranston, Rev. Canon W. Fancourt, and the Revs. W. If. Holday, D. A. Thomson, R. C. Roberts, George Jackson, R. Stowards, W. W. Averill, W. J. Comrie, W. Campbell, W. E. Lush, and Messrs. Julian Rrook, C. A. Whitney, W. J. Fletcher, E. S." Fairgray, H. Murdoch, H. E. Edmiston, J. C. Entrican, W. S. Mackay, G. Falla, K N. Andrews, F. W. Blakey, A. G. J'.ee, C. 11. Furncss, and George Brown lee.
