DIOMEDE SAILS TO-DAY.
VISIT TO SOUTHERN PORTS. RETURN EARLY IN DECEMBER. 11.M.5. Diomede is to sail to-day on a three months' cruise to southern ports. Tho warship will leave at 2.30 this afternoon and ber first port of call will be Wellington, where she will arrive on
Thursday. On October 6 tho Diomede will leave Wellington for a cruise round the South Island and she will call at a number of places. She will proceed down the west coast, making calls at George Sound, Doubtful Inlet, Dusky Sound and Preservation Inlet. On October 12 the warship is due at Bluff, and later she will visit Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton and Akaroa before she returns to Wellington on November 24. Two days later the Diomede will continue the cruise and travel up the east coast to Napier, where a stay will bo made from November 27 to December 2. The cruiser will then proceed to the Hauraki Gulf, where exercises will be carried out in company with the sloops Laburnum and Veronica for six days. The Diomede is scheduled to return to Auckland on December 9.
