In the British professional golf championship in the fourth round, Padgham defeated Easterbrook, 3 and 2; Thomson beat Mitchell, 3 and 1: Ward beat Weston, 2 and 1; Seymour beat Herd, 4 and 3. Iti the semi-finals Padgham beat Thomson, 6 and 5; Seymour beat Ward, 4 and 3. Old Sandy Herd, aged 63, succumbed to a combination of age and bad luck, going down with colours flying to Seymour. Abe Mitchell's who is only half Herd's age and is tail and loosely built. Thomson' 3 surprise defeat of Mitchell was the best match of his golfing life.
