RISE IN i; RUBBER FEELS 'BENEFIT. British Wireless. RUGBY, Sept. 24. On the London stock markets this morning fair business passed .in the ' foreign exchange market, although the rates are still nominal. Commodities continued to me. Rubber was 3-16 d higher at 3 l-16d per lb. The changed monetary conditions have created an optimistic spirit, in the Lancashire industrial towns, and the cotton industry appears to have received a fresb impetus. THE CITY MARKETS. YESTERDAY'S AUCTIONS. COMPETITION FOR BANANAS. Competition was keen for ripe bananas at the Auckland City Markets yesterday, and first grade fruit sold at 21s to 25s 6<i a case, compared with 13s a case earlier in the week. A .iresh shipment, of bananas is due by the Tofua on Monday. Australian oranges were selling freely, bat there was a very poor demand f&r mandarins, which realised only 4s to 13 a case. Lemons were also very slow of sale, local fruit being offered at to 7s 6d a case and Australian rat 8s to IQs. The demand for apples yesterday • remained about the same as at earlier sales, with the exception of special Delicious, which "showed a slight • improvement at 6d to 3s a case. Stunners at 8a to 9a were about the same as at the beginning of the week. At yesterday's sales, the field produce market was heavily supplied with lettuce, pumpkins and cabbage. There were alsofair supplies of new potatoes, green peas, beans, cauliflower and all other vegetables in season. There was. a fair demand for most lines. New potatoes sold at to 3d per lb., a slight increase' on the price of ljd to 2id ruling a week ago. Prices of most other varieties remained steady. The supply of poultry was .small yesterday, and the demand very keen. As a result, there was competition .for table birds, which showed a sharp increase in valnes compared with those ruling last week. Prime cockerels of heavy breeds were keenly sought at 6s to- 8s 6d each yesterday, compared with 5s- to 6s 6d a week ago, while light prime birds sold at 3s 6d to 5s yesterday,. against 3s to % 6a at the previous sale.

There was no alteration in the prices for .hen eggs, although each grade of duck eggs was Id a dozen cheaper. The special grade hen eggs sold yesterday at Is Ijd a dozen, while special duck eggs realised Is Ojd.
