WHANGAREI HARBOUR.
PAYMENT OF INTEREST. SAVING THROUGH EXCHANGE. [FROM Ol'R OWS CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI. Friday. At the meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board yesterday, the chairman. Mr. J. Finlayson, reported that, he had instnicted the secretary to transmit immediatelv an interest payment which would become due in Sydney on November 1. The amount payable in Sydney was £3500, and by remitting through a local bank, the board actually paid at Whangare: £2950, thereby effecting a saving of £549 9s lOd. The meeting passed a vote of thanks to the chairman for his initiative. A deputation from the Whangarei District Cricket Association requested a reduction in the rental for the use of ten acres of the board's property. The chairman said the matter would be dealt with by the Legal Committee, and the deputation could rest assured that the rental would be decreased. Thf district engineer of the Public Works Department wrote stating that the metalling of the Whangaruru Wharr Road would receive attention as soon as the weather permitted.
