DOMINION ART SOCIETIES.
formation of association. SCHEME FOR SCHOLARSHIPS. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] WELLINGTON. Friday. Delegates representing art societies in several parts of New Zealand were present at a meeting held in Wellington to-day when articles of association for the New Zealand Association of Art Societies were drafted and adopted. Later in the day a deputation, introduced by Mr. R. Semple, M.P., waited on the 'Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. A. Hamilton, asking permission to hold an art union for the purpose of raising funds for proposed art scholarships. After the constitution of tlie association had been adopted and rules approved, application was made to have the association registered under the Education Act. Members stated that it was anticipated that enough funds would be raised by means of a lottery and by public subscription to enable the society to allot scholarships to art students and architectural students of exceptional ability in rotation to enable them to continue their studies in England or other art centres that might be selected. Dr. E B. Gunson (Auckland) was elected president of the society, Mr. J. A. Hegginbotham, secretary, and Mr A. E Curry treasurer
