tallies of traffic. Tallies are being taken at the Auckland railway station to assess the effect on tho volume of traffic of the recent reduction in fares. Although it will probably be some weeks before tho results of the new scale can be accurately noted, a prominent railway ofiicer stated yesterday that many of the suburban trains )iad been noticeably more crowded since tho lower fares were instituted. Apart from building up tho suburban services, great hopes were held that traffic between tho city and the Waikato, "recently lost to service car competition, would bo ro captured.
