REPAIRS TO CABLE.
WORK FOR STEAMER IRIS. A fault has developed in one of the cables between Wellington and Sydney and the cable steamer Iris is to carry out tho necessary repair work. The cable is functioning as usual, but it is considered a break might occur. The Iris is to sail from Auckland at noon to-morrow and will call at Wellington to take on cables and replenish the bunkers before proceeding to locate the fault, which is about 500 miles from Wellington. Tho repair work should take less than a fortnight, provided the weather is fine.
