FAREWELL GATHERING.
Nurse Cameron, of the Public Health Department, who has been stationed in Opotiki for the past nine years, was accorded a farewell this week in St. John's Hall. The Mayoress, Mrs. J. T. Thompson, presided over a very large gathering of citizens, including members of local bodies. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and a good programme of music and games was provided. Besides that of the Mayoress, eulogistic speeches were made bv Mr. J. T. Merry, secretary of the Hospital Board, and Mi". Herni Nikora, on behalf of the natives of the district, with whom Nurse Cameron was very popular. Replying, Nurse Cameron expressed her great regret at being transferred, and said that for 3j years she had done all her travelling by horseback, until the natives had subscribed and bought her a car. She expressed her appreciation of the great help given her by Messrs. J. M. Butler, H. R. Hogg, Mcintosh, J. T. Merry, J. H. Reid and A. E. Payne. Miss Cameron refused to allow any subscriptions to be raised for a presentation which had been intended. "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very pleasant function to a close.
