MERCANTILE AUXILIARY.

A very successful impromptu dance was given last evening in the clubrooms of the Overseas League, when the girls of the Mercantile Auxiliary entertained the officers, engineer officers and cadets of the steamer Cornwall. Coloured streamers and seasonal flowers made attractive eorations. Full advantage was taken of the music supplied by Mr. Trevor Moody, while novel competitions added further to the enjoyment of Ihe evening. Mrs. A. F. McArthur met the cadets on arrival and wore a frock of black Ohantillv lace with floral bridge coat. Among the dancers were: Miss Evelyn McNeil who wore a frock of flame satin : Miss Jovce Dickey, white taffeta: Miss Hilda Dickey, green floral georgette; Miss Rita Booth/ parchment taffeta : Miss Ida Vella, floral net: Miss Isobel Wil6on, apricot georgette; Miss Hilary Booth, periwinkle taffeta ; Miss Laura Edgar, floral georgette in flesh tones; Miss Peacock, apple-green georgette; Miss Clyde Ifweisen, midnight blue georgette; Miss Moira Clark, black silk lace; Miss Eva Warren, pink georgette: Miss Edna Skeen, white satin; Miss Joan Tilly, floral georgette: Miss Joan Compton, silver lace; Miss Jew. primrose satin; Miss Joan Jew, jade taffeta j Miss Margaret Lee, blue frilled georgette.
