LIQUOR AT DANCES.
MAYOR'S SPIRITED PROTEST.
SUPPLIES IN MOTOR-CARS.
MEN LACKING IN CHIVALRY.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday.
A spirited protest against the practice of taking liquor to dances was made by the Mayor of Stratford, Mr. P. Thomson, at a meeting of the Borough Council.
Mr. Thomson said that on making inquiries he had found that the dance committees wer6 not at fault, but that the trouble was with dancers who take private supplies of liquor and take women partners out from the hall into private cars to partake of such supplies. "There seems nowadays to be a great lack of chivalry on the part of many of our young men at dances," added Mr. Thomson. "After an item many of the men either promptly abandon their partners and get into a corner for a smoke, or get their partners out to a car for a drink. No man with a proper sense of chivalry or decency would do either." It was finally decided that the Town Hall Committee should bring down a report on conditions at the hall.
