JOURNALISTIC CAREER.
MR. CARR ROLLETT RETIRES. After a long journalistic career, Mr. F. Carr Rollett lias retired from the New Zealand Herald and Auckland Weekly News, of which he has been agricultural editor for 33 years. A Yorkshireman by birth, Mr. Rollett -went to Australia as * young man and served for some years on several Victorian newspapers. Soon after arriving in New Zealand he joined the Christchurch Press, travelling through the mining districts of Westland and the agricultural plains of North Canterbury.' In 1898 he joined the New Zealand Herald and Auckland Weekly News as agricultural editor, and in the course of his long association with those papers visited every corner of the North Island. He gained a wide reputation as a writer on agricultural topics, and was a vigorous advocate of closer land settlement and development, particularly in the Auckland Province. His faith in the agricultural and pastoral potentialities of the land had great influence* in popularising the Auckland Province from a farming standpoint. To mark his retirement 'from active journalism, Mr. Rollett was presented on behalf of the staffs of the Herald and Weekly News with a fishing rod. The presentation was made by Mr. R. M. Hacket, editor of the Herald, whose remarks were supported by Mr. E. D'Esterre, editor of the Weekly News, and Mr. G. C. Codlin, general manager of Wilson and Horton, Limited. Mr. Rollett suitably replied.
