HERD-TESTING SUBSIDY.

FINAL SETTLEMENT MADE. DISTRIBUTION OF PAYMENTS. [FROM OITK OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Thursday. A final settlement has been made in connection with the distribution of the Government herd-testing subsidy for tho 1930-31 season, and tho New Zealand Co-operative Herd-testing Association will be receiving a cheque for £1499. This sum represents the association's proportion of the residue of the £BOOO voted by tho Government to assisting herdtesting after all claims lodged by other herd-testing associations and approved by the New Zealand Herd-testing Federation s central executive have been met. lhc claims are in respect to allowances for new groups formed, assistance to newly-formed associations and weak groups, and the cost of renewing plant and equipment. The whole of tho £1499 granted to the New Zealand Association will be refunded or credited to members of the association who tested last season on the basis of the number of cows on which testing fees were paid. Tho refunds or credits will equal 4d a cow tested under the group system, and 2d a cow tested under the individual system. In tho case of members entitled to the subsidy who will bo testing again this season, the sums duo will be credited to tho current season's accounts, whilo in tho case of members who ate entitled to the subsidy, but who are not testing this soason, the refunds will bo paid in cash on October 20.
