AT ASHBURTON. THE ORDERING OF BEER. "" " 4 Strong disapproval of the action of several of the Ashburton senior representative Rugby footballers, who practised last Sunday, was expressed at a subsequent meeting of the Ashburton .RugbyUnion by two members. Mr. M. C. Segers asked if the training of players last Sunday was called officially by the union. The president, Mr. H. A. Sarney, replied that it was not. Mr. Segers: I don't want to make a noise, but a number of ,peop!e have told me that the footballers were training and that beer was ordered for practice on Sunday. Mr. H. J. Chapman: There was nothing official. ilr. Segers: Well, there is an account here for beer for the Rugby Union. Sir. Chapman: It has no name on it. Mr. Segers added that he was very much against Sunday training. Mr. R. H. Loy said that Gne prominent citizen said that he, as treasurer, should not have sanctioned the ordering of refreshments for Sunday training. "There is every semblance that the beer was ordered on behalf of the union, and that is a great pity," added Mr. Loy. Mr. Chapman: It was nothing of the kind. Players expressed a wish to practise on Sunday. The refreshments were ordered by myself, and the has nothing to do with the union. As there was no motion before the meeting the president closed the discussion.
