BUTTER AND CHEESE.

EXPORTS FROM DOMINION* FIGURES FOR EIGHT MONTHS. ADVANCE MADE BY AUSTRALIA. Interesting figures concerning the imports of butter and cheese into Great Britain during the first eight months of this year are given in a statement just issued by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board. During last month the shipments of New Zealand butter comprised 3304. tons and those of cheese 2-513 tons. In the corresponding period in 1930, totals of 3465 tons of butter and 3180 tons of cheese were exported. Australian shipments last month comprised 3336 tons of butter and 199 tons of cheese, as against 1557 tons of butter and 292 tons of cheese in August, 1930. During the first eight months of the year Denmark was the greatest supplier of the butter market in Great Britain, sending 82,409 tons, compared with 68,053 tons from New Zealand. *The supply of Australian butter increased substantially, 51,520 tons being forwarded, compared ! with 31,727 in 1930. There was also a large increase in the Russian supply, the 1930 figure being more than doubled in 1931. Details of Butter Imports. The Canadian export of 10,299 tons was the next highest. The stocks of butter and cheese held in Canada on September 1 were 17.832 tons and 13,316 tons respectively, while the quantity of Canadian cheese held in the United Kingdom at the same date was 7663 tons, making a total of 20,979 tons, as against 20,813 tons in 1930. The total estimated stocks of butter in London, including private and provincial stores and steamers, not discharged, totalled 22,900 tons on September 1, which is 1800 tons less than the amount in stock . on the same date a year earlier. Stocks of butter in New Zealand on September 1, including consignments loaded on steamers, comprised 9815 tons, compared ! with 7044 tons in 1930. i The estimated stocks of cheese at London, Liverpool and Bristol on September | 1 amounted to 15,352 tons, of which 7689 , ! tons were from New Zealand and AusI tralia. On the same date in 1930 the total stocks were 14,967 tons, New Zealand and Australian being 7982 tons. Stocks in New Zealand and afloat from New Zealand on September 1 were 6879 tons, as against 8440 tons in 1930.
