AIRMAN AS SHEPHERD.
MACHINE DIVES OVER SHEEP.
INCIDENT AT MANGERE
One of the many uses to which an aeroplane can be put was demonstrated by Flight-Lieutenant D. M. Allan, instructor to the Auckland Aero Club, at the Mangere aerodrome yesterday morning when fye used a machine to muster straying sheep. Somo of the sheep which graze on the aerodrome had broken through tha fence and had reached the road, and Lieutenaut Allan, who was testing a machine at the time, noticed the straying stock. One of the mechanics also saw that the sheep had broken away, and was about to chase them on foot, when the instructor came past at a low altitude with his engine shut off and shouted that ho would attend to them.
Gaining a little height, he dived at the sheep again and again, and the animals, which should be thoroughly "air-minded" by now, did not know what to make of the roaring shape that came speeding so close to their heads, and with one accord turned tail and returned to the enclosure. When the last sheep had regained the aerodrome, the pilot chased, the flock well away from the break in the fence, and then glided in to a perfect landing/
