LADIES' HOCKEY TOURNEY.
NEW ZEALAND CONTESTS. a FIRST GAMES ON SATURDAY. Ladies' hockey teams from many parts of tho Dominion will take part in the Now Zealand ladies' hockey tournament, which will be held in Auckland this year for tho first time since the contests were initiated 12 years ago. The first of the teams to arrive, Southland and Eastern Southland, will reach Auckland by tho 6.40 express this morning. Wairarapa, Poverty Bay and Wanganui representatives will arrive by motor-buses in tho evening, and Wellington, Akitio, Manawatu, Ruahine and Rotorua teams will arrive by train tomorrow. A trial game between tho Auckland City and Auckland Country teams will be played to-morrow at tho Remuera grounds. The tournament will begin on Saturday, and will continue throughout tho following week. The present holders of the "K" Cup, the championship of tho tournament, are Wellington and Eastern Southland conjointly, Otago being the holders of the Holden Cup. Auckland has never yet won the trophy, but two strong teams are being fielded this year. Arrangements aro in the hands of Miss Alma Twinan\p, of tho Auckland Association, who has had the task of billeting 90 of the visiting players. Tho remaining members of the teams will stay at boarding houses and hotels. Prominent officials of the New Zealand Association who will arrive on Friday are Mr. R- Thompson, of Wanganui, president, and Miss 11. Kitto, of Wellington, secretary.
