Sir James Gnnson left for [Wellington last evening.

Sir Alfred S. Bsnkart was a passenger for Wellington by train last evening.

Mr. Lloyd Mandeno left yesterday by the Niagara on a business trip to Suva.

Mr. J. Lewis, of Wellington, and Mr. T. Marshall, of Christchurch, are at tho Royal Hotel.

Mr. J. Walmsley, Mr. H. G. Williams, Mr. R. Leslie and Mr. A. L. Wall, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel.

The Hons. C. J. Carrington, J. B. Gow, J. Trevithick and W. Stewart, M.L.C.'s, returned to Wellington last evening.

Archbishop Averill left for Wellington last evening to officiate at the consecration of the assistant-bishop of Melanesia, the Rev. J. Dickenson.

Mr. and Mrs. Clare Robinson, of London, who have been touring the Dominion. returned from tho South yesterday. They are at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. Gordon M. McKenzie, a member of the staff of the Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, has been appointed curate of St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, Wellington.

Mr. A. H. Denne, headmaster of the Dannevirke South School for the past two and a-half years, has been appointed principal of tho Taihape District High School.

Mr. F. A. Drake and Mr. J. G. Nichol, of Wellington, Mr. E. C. Board and Mr. G. Calvert, of Cambridge, and Mr. H. W. Wilson, of Waimai, are at thjs Central Hotel.

Mr. A. G. Burnett, secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board, who is visiting England, will return to New Zealand by the Rangitiki, due at Auckland on October 1.

Mr. S. P. Carey and Mr. A. E. Stock, of Christchureb, Dr. G. H. Cunningham and Mr. A. Kennedy, of Palmerston North, and Captain N. Wilson, of Rotorua, are at the Star Hotel.

Mr. G. W. Hutchison, Mayor of Auckland, returned yesterday from Hawera, where he had been attending a conference of the North Island Union. Mr. Hutchison is to give evidence on behalf of the union in Wellington tomorrow before the select committee f-ct up by Parliament to consider highways finance.
