HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. UNSETTLED, WITH SHOWERS. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. (o-rlay was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—Tho extensive depression is crossing the Dominion, and is being closely followed by a secondary disturbance. Expect cloudy and unsettled weather, with ram in most districts, heavy in western areas. Temperatures will become colder generally. Variable winds, southerly to south-wester-lies, strong to gale, prevailing shortly. Seas increasing southward from East Cape and Capo Egmont. Local outlook: Unsettled, with rain at intervals, and conditions are likely to become squally. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.85 in, Midnight, Sunday .. .. 29.951J1. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, GOdeg.; Minimum, SOdcs. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as followsA rather intense depression is co'vering the Dominion, its centre having been located to-day off the west coast of Otago. Pressure is high over the greater part of Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force in exposed positions, backing to southerly soon in the far south, and southerlies shortly becoming general. Seas rough on the west coast and off shore south of East Cape, elsewhere moderate. Strong westerly to south-westerly winds, with rough seas, in the eastern Tasman Sea. The weather will be changeable and squally, with intermittent rain in most districts, and hail on parts of the coast. Temperatures becoming cold. RAINFALL RECORD.
