The theft of 17 books, of a total value of £2, the property of the Sydenham Public Library, Cbristchurch, was admitted by George Mervyn Wynn Humphreys, aged 27, carpenter, in the Police Court yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused came to Auckland from Christchurch five weeks ago. As a result of information received detectives visited him at his home and found him to be in possession of the books. Accused, who was formerly a subscriber to the Sydenham Library, was now receiving charitable aid in Auckland. He had previously been convicted of theft.
