ROBBERS IN MELBOURNE.

RECORD FOR A FORTNIGHT. PROPERTY WORTH £13,000. Reports of housebreaking and shopbreaking and of thefts of motor-cars, motor-cycles and bicycles are received daily by the police from all parts of Melbourne. Many of the recent thefts have been committed in daylight. There have been several reports of robbery with 'violence. Figures for the fortnight ended June 23 show that property valued at more than £13,000 was reported as having been stolen. In the week ended June 16, 74 houses and shops were broken into and money, clothing, jewellery and other articles, valued at £3534, were stolen. There were also 136 cases of larceny reported to the police, the value of the property stolen being £2470. Nearly 100 motor-cars, motor-cycles and bicycles, of an aggregate value of £2254. were reported stolen during a recent week. Many robberies from shops and houses in all parts of the metropolitan area were reported in the following week. Jewellery, clothing and other articles stolen from shops and houses in this period were valued at £3540.
