MAN FATALLY INJURED.
FALL DOWN LIGHT WELL. GOVERNMENT CUSTODIAN. CUSTOMS STREET ACCIDENT. Fatal injuries were received •at 1.45 p.m. yesterday by the custodian of the Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Mr. Henry 'J-'. Foster', aged 58, of Manukau Road, Parnell. He is believed to have fallen from the second floor. His skull and both legs were fractured. The injured man was removed to the Auckland Hospital, where he died without regaining consciousness. The place from which Mr. Foster is believed to have fallen is a small landing in a light well about "40ft. above a concrete courtyard. Electicians % working i|i a room off the courtyard heard the noise of the fall arid found Mr. Foster I'ving on the ground insensible. The St. John Ambulance was summoned immediately from the Queen s Wharf ambulance station and Mr. loster was taken to the hospital. He was admitted at 2 p.m. and died 35 minutes later. There is another landing leading through the light well from the first floor, but from the seriousness of Mr. Foster's injuries it is thought that his fall must have been from the second, although how it came about is not known. A wooden railing about waisthigh is provided on each landing. Jhe custodian's duties included the inspection of the paintwork of the. building and the windows, and it is probable that he was thus engaged when he fell. Mr. Foster had been custodian of the Government Buildings for about seven years. He leaves an adult family.
