COST OF STEAMER SERVICE. CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLING TON, Tuesday. A reference to t! 10 Bluff-Melbourne steamer service was made by the- Hon; P. A. do Ja i'errclle, Minister of Industries and Commerce, in the House of Bcprcsentatives to-day. Tiic Minister said it was Jhe only subsidised service iti the South Island, and lie was certain it was well woiih.while. Mr. A. Harris (Reform—Waitemata): What does it cost you? The Minister said the Government was paying £SOO a month. He stated that the vessel, in addition to calling at Bluff, also served Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington, and a system of tours had been arranged whereby travellers could work out the complete * cost of the trip before they left, lie was confident that as soon us times improved the service would show better results. 'ft Mr. de la Perrelle- added that the Government was doing all that was possible to extend the tourist- traffic.
