ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

ENGLISH TROPHY CHALLENGE AUCKLAND'S GAME INDEFINITE. A reply to the challenge for the English trophy, forwarded to the New Zealand Football Association recently by Auckland, was received at a meeting of the control board of the Auckland Football Association last evening. It stated that, providing Wellington withstood Canterbury's challenge, there was the possibility of a date early in September for the Auckland-Wellington match. On the suggestion of the New Zealand Football Association it was resolved to forward the challenge to the Wellington Association, expressing the hope that Wellington could arrange the match this season in the event of its defeating Canterbury. The New Accord Club notified that its match with Thistle at New Lynn on Saturday would be in aid of the unemployed and an invitation was extended to members of the control board to be present. A letter was received from the Auckland Transport Rugby Football Club asking for the use of Blandford Park on August 25 and 27, when the annual competition for the Kohn Shield was to be held. It was decided to advise the applicants that the ground dimensions of Blandford Park'would be unsuitable for Rugby football matches.
