Molly Maine, a society girl, received a plot of land at Hout Bay, South Africa, as a present on her 21st birthday. Drifting sand from the plot damaged neighbouring property, and the court ordered her to pay £9O in compensation. She refused, and was sent to the debtors' prison for a fortnight.
