WINTER EXHIBITION.

INTEREST MAINTAINED.

brisk' business reported

VARIED PROGRAMME TO-DAY

Exceptionally large attendances of the

public thronged tho courts' at tho AuckI land Winter Exhibition throughout yesterday and last evening, and the day was easily tho most successful since tho opening. The weather was favourable and this had an immediate and desirable effect on patronage.

Thero was a pronounced gala atmosphere, especially in tho evening, when difficulty was experienced in negotiating the lanes between the stalls. Tho side show section was kept active and most of tho proprietors were well pleased with the improvement in patronage. A satisfactory feature was tho greater public interest in the fino displays of New Zealand manufacturers. Exhibitors were plied with questions and had an excellent opportunity to spread ' propaganda on behalf of New Zealand-made goods. - Apart from this, many orders were secured, with every prospect that the encouraging business will be maintained. The exhibits of the New Zealand Society of - Model? and Experimental Engineers again attracted attention. Large audiences watched the entertainments in the concert hall, which included dancing by Miss K. Boyle's pupils, a display by Boy Scouts, a programme by the Ponsonby Boys' Brass Band, and talking pictures. The judging of ducks and large poultry drew many enthusiasts. During to-day's events, which will begin with talking pictures at 11 a.m., there will be a decided Scots atmosphere. The Highland and National Dancing Society's competitions wijl commence at 1.30 p.m., and will be continued at 6.30 p.m. •- At 7.30 p.m. a programme by St. Andrew's Highland Pipe Band will be given.

EXHIBIT OF FRUIT. « SHAME TO GROWERS." The poor exhibit of fruit at the Winter Exhibition was commented upon by Mr. G. A. Green at a meeting of the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Council yesterday. • Mr. Green said the show provided a good opportunity for fruitgrowers to bring before the public the value of tho industry. "However, the exhibit this year is - a shame to all growers," he said. ."It is so small that it' has been poked away in a far corner—at. tho very zero point of the show. The growers have onlv "themselves to blame if they do not Obtain in the future the consideration they have had in the past. People passing through the show can have no idea of the extent of .the fruitgrowing industry and its worth to the province."

''FRIENDSHIP" TEAS AND COFFEES AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION. " Friendship" products have a pariicu-' larly appropriate setting at the Winter Show. Displaying an artistic sense, Messrs. James Royce and Company, Ltd., ■have so arranged their exhibit of "Friendship" teas, coffee and peanut butter as to give' that atmosphere of distinction associated with the craftsman and artist. Genuine Arabian materials, Indian and Persian rugs, and metalware, the original packages of teas and coffees, a colourful Eastern background, and a' delightful aroma—all indicate the success of the proprietors in providing the essentials of perfect hospitality.

BACON FACTORY EXHIBIT. A COMPREHENSIVE DISPLAY. One of the most striking exhibits of the show is that arranged by the Auckland Meat Company, Limited. This en- ' terprisiug firm has taken considerable trouble to show the public the wide range of table delicacies which can be produced from pork, and the result reflects considerable credit on the design ers. Although the well-known "Monarch" bacon is one of the principal lines, the range of'small goods is so comprehensive that only a firm employing a large staff of experts could have been responsible for the exhibit. Sucking pigs, polonies, fancy brawn, sausage rolls, Cornish pasties, pure leaf lard and picnic hams form but a small part of the exhibit which well warrants a visit from all who attend the show. GATES' CLEANSER. FOR CLEANING PORCELAIN BATHS. Housewives should not fail to visit the exhibit of Messrs. Gates and Son, Christchurch. This progressive firm has on display several lines coming more and more under the category of everyday necessities in New Zealand homes. The Cleanser is a particularly popular lino and is being used in the Christchurch Hospital with the most satisfying results. The price is exceptionally low. Gates' "Boska" Cleaning Paste 'is also excellent for removing oil and paint from the hands.

KAPAI CORN BROOMS. AN INTERESTING DISPLAY. 'A broom or brush for every is shown in the exhibit of the Kapai Corn Broom Company, Ltd. The firm has a most interesting display of New Zealandmade goods which are well worth the 'closest inspection. One of the features is the w.oll-knowu " Kapai" Corn Broom with enamelled handles, the brush being wrapped in covers to ensure better condition on reaching the customer's hands. An excellent display is made of floorpolishing mops, the " Kapai" Dustless Mop being equal to anything on the market. Special requirements for factory or trade use are made to order by experts. The "Kapai" Co. guarantees all goods sold bearing it 3 well-known brands. Buy New Zealand goods—keep our factory busy.

AIDS TO BETTER FENCING. E. lIAYES AND SONS' EXHIBIT. An effective demonstration of the efficacy of their fencing patents is given T ; by Messrs. E. Hayes and Sons, of • Oturehua, Otago. One of the firm's principal lines is a wire-strainer which has •*: drawn testimonials from all parts of the • Dominion. It is light to carry and easy • ! to work. The firm's permanent wire- • strainers are also attractive for the farmer requiring a reliable method of ensuring tight wires on short lengths.
