MARINE SUBURBS SCHEME.
LINKING WESTERN AREAS. I. DISCUSSION AT BIRKENHEAD. ■ A scheme for the Comprehensive development of tho western marine suburbs has jjeen engaging the attention of Birkenhead "residents. Tho proposals include .the iihking-up of Birkenhead with the surrounding districts by means of a bridge Over the upper loaches of the harbour at Hobsonville, the erection, of a new wharf at the head of Little Shod Bay, with a Vehicular landitig, and the construction rjf a substantial roadway as an outlet from the proposed Waitemata harboui 1 ' bridgehead at Northcote to enable the motor traffic to enter the main northern highWay at the southern end of Ilauraki Street at Birkenhead. 1 The scheme was discussed at tho meeting held on Wednesday; to consider the amalgamation of Birkenhead and Northcote. On the suggestion of tho chairman, Mr. J. P. McPhail, Mayor of Birkenhead) consideration of the suggested new thoroughfare between the two boroughs, from the lower end of Ilauraki Road, Birkenhead, was deferred.
