MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH AFFAIRS.
Sir, —The Mount Eden Borough Council has issued notices to several old servants of'the council, some of whom have served the council for over 20 years. It cannot bo on the score of economy, because appointments have been made without even advertising the positions. The salary being paid to at least one of these new servants is considerably higher than that of the men dismissed. It the council would issue a frank statement to the ratepayers' and the ratepayers are satisfied to thus dismiss old servants, I can, of course, only deplore the position, but I venture to think that such an injustice as to dismiss one man to make room for another would not be permitted. I do not wish to ilncluly tpespass on your space, but if any ratepayer would like the facts as to dismissals the writer will willingly supply them. I suggest to the council that old, tried and valued servants deserve some consideration. E. B. Bambury.
