TRAMWAY' FARES.
Sir, —I quite agree with your correspondents regarding the Transport Board. There seems to be no excuse for keeping the fare for the first section at twoponce. The concession cards only benefit a portion of the travellers, but the alteration to a penny would benefit everyone. The board seems to be very nervous about making reductions in expenses. I would have thought they would have been among the first to get the benefit of the 10 per cent. cut. I never could see why a large salaried board should be required to run such a small affair as the Auckland Iraniways. Surely the manager could run the whole affair, in connection with a committee of the City Council, just to advise if necessary. That would reduce expenses very largely. The reduction to the penny could be managed very easily if gone about in a business way. Tram Rideb.
