A REMARKABLE INCREASE. TOTAL NOW 42,118.000. (Received Juno 16, 5.5 p.m.) ROME, Juno 15. The census shows that tho population of Italy is 42,118,000, which reveals a remarkable rate of increase. Tho population of Italy has been as follows at the dates stated: — 1800 .. .. 17,237,421 1848 .. .. 23,617,153 1861 . •• 25,016,801 1881 .. ..• .. 28,459,628 1911 .. .. 34,671,377 1921 ... .. 38,756,433 1927 . •• • ■ • 40.799,000 1930 .. •• . . 41,850,000 Tho birth rate was 38.10 per 1000 in 1831, 33.29 in 1902, 27.79 in 1925, 27.2 in 1926, and 25.2 in 1923. It has recently largely increased.
