ST. LUKE'S CHURCH.
NEW BUILDING SCHEME. PLANS "WELL ADVANCED. One of the chief matters before the Auckland Presbytery last evening was a scheme .for building a. new St. Luke's church, Remuera. Reporting on the proposal the Rev. J. A. Thomson said a building scheme had been launched two and a-half years ago and £15,000 was aimed at. They now had £11,500 in sight and £6600 in hand exclusive of a, legacy, and they were in a position to undertake the building a year earlier than they had anticipated. They had received an offer which would enable them to go on with the building as soon as another £3OO in cash was received. .The proposed building would seat 400 people. The question whether the Presbytery was prepared to commit-itself to the erection of a church to cost £14,000 on the present, site of St. Luke's was raised.by the Rev. L. H. Hunt. He said he had been told by a previous minister that St. Luke's was the worst-placed church in Auckland. He suggested that, a commission should be set up to inquire into future developments of the church in Remuera. It seemed to him a large sum of money to expend to seat 400 people. The plans of the building were sent on to the property committee for a report..
