CIVIC LEAGUE.
The monthly meeting of the Civic League was held in the social room of the Y.W.C.A. yesterday afternoon, the president, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, presiding. A letter was received from the chief traffic inspector in reply to a request from the league that pillion-riding should he made illegal, and that motor-cyclists riding with open exhausts or guilty of excessive speed should be prosecuted. 1 he reply from the traffic inspector stated that he had received definite instructions from the City Council to proceed against such offenders. A letter was received from tne town clerk stating that the unsanitary condition of an uncovered garbage cart at Avondale, of which the league had complained, would receive immediate attention. , , . An invitation to the league to send a delegato to the meeting called by the Mayor of Auckland on Juno 16, with regard to unemployed women, was received. A letter expressing appreciation of the valuable assistance and co-operation extended to her by the Civic League during her term as Mayoress of Auckland, was received from Mrs. A. D. Campbell. A resolution to the effect that "Children in the primary schools should be separated from the age of 12 years and taught by teachers of their own sex" was passed.
