LONG GLIDER FLIGHTS.

TWO EXCEED 500 YARDS.

FORCED DESCENT NECESSARY. Several excellent flights were made bv members of tlio New Zealand Model Aero and Gliding Club at a meeting held yesterday at Mr. V. Collidge's farm, Mangcre. One member, Mr. V. Pointon, achioved a glido of more than 500 yds., and to avoid being carried into the Manukau Harbour mado a forced descent. The glider, tlio club's Hawk machine,, landed in a patch of mud bordering the shore and had to be hauled to firm land. Mr. F. C. Mac Donald also covered a distance of 500 yds. in the Hawk machine. A large attendance watched the (lights, 26 being made during the day. Tile conditions were favourable., and improved toward the end of the meeting. Most" of the members succeeded in gliding distances exceeding 50yds., tlio Phoenix machine being used as well as the Hawk. The performances showed a marked improvement on those established at tlio previous meetings of -the club, and the flights of Messrs. Pointon and Mac Donald arc the best to rlnte. Other members who took part at the meeting were:—Messrs. P. T. Chinnery-Brown, J. C. Harkness, J?. Brown, F. Thomas, R. Hare, It. Wallace, A. Morion, Y. P. Pederson and CJ. F. Russell.
