PLAGIARISM ALLEGED.
Mr. CHAPLIN'S NEW FILM. CHARGE BY FRENCH AUTHOR. LONDON, May 26. M. Jean Sarment, says tho Paris correspondent of tho News-Chronicle, accuses Mr. Charles Chaplin of plagiarism, alleging that tho central idea of Mr. Chaplin's new film, " City Lights." is identical with that of his play, *' Tho Most Beautiful Eyes in the World." Tho play, I*l. Sarment states, was written in 1922, produced in 1925, translated into 10 languages, and bought for America in 1925 by a manager who intended to submit it to Mr. Chaplin. M. Sarment does not accuse Mr. Chaplin of bad faith, but suggests unconscious cerebration, and asks what are his intentions as a great artist and a new Knight of tho Legion of Honour. Both plays are running in Paris, and Mr. Sarment. will proceed to law if Mr. Chaplin unduly delays his reply.
