BRITISH SILK HOSE.

Sir, —I consider it my duty to refer to the remarks reported in your issue of Wednesday as having been made by a buyer of a large city firm: —"He said the effect of the new tariff would probably lie to divert the trade in silk stocking's to tho United States, as Britain could not supply the demand." Such a statement is most unfair to our best friend, the United Kingdom, where there are many factories making these goods. One firm alone who to my knowledge has been established for 150 years could, I assure you. make all the silk hose necessary for the New Zealand market, having tho latest, in plant and machinery. It is, therefore, reasonable to expect that New Zealand will now buy these goods from her own good customer, Great Britain. Fair Play.
