THRIFT AND THE DEPRESSION.
Sir, —Tltc remedy offered by Mr. Paish, Board of Trade Commissioner, as the way out of tho depression, does not seem to me to square with facts. He advises individual thrift, us a means of bringing back prosperity. Thrift is a virtue that brings jts own reward. It is also a great national asset. But the outstanding fact about this depression its that though it is world-wide, in every part of the world there exists an abundance of real wealth; that is to say, there is a greatei store of commodity —raw and manufactured, things to eat, to wear and to enjoy—than there has ever been within the history of mankind. In view of this fact it is difficult to seo how restricting the use of these things can be "a way out of the depression." Helen W/i.soN.
