MATCHES AT MIDDLEMORE. FINE PLAY BY R. D. HORTON. DR. JOHNSON DEFEATS ALDRED. Members of the Auckland Golf Club played a bogey competition at Middlemoro yesterday under ideal conditions, about- 00 plnyers taking part. The winner was A. M. Howden, who went round in 74, and, with seven strokes, finished 8 up on bogey. Tho best cards were:—A. M. Howden 0), 8 up; H. A. Joyco (8), 2 up; C. F. Jones (12), all square; S. S. Wilson (5), all square. A four-ball best-ball bogey match wub played in the afternoon. The best cards returned were:—S. S. Wilson and R. D. Llorton, C up: It. B. Wilson and W. Souter, 3 up; V. E. J. Wells and 13. Barker, 4 up; T. R. Brett and E. J. Moss, 1 up; A. Donald and N. Louisson, 4 up; H. Horton and D. MacCorniick, 4 up. R. D. Horton, ono of tho winning pair whoso handicap was 7, went out in tho great score of 33. Iliis feat has only been equalled once before by E. J. Moss. Horton's complete round was 73, tho net score being 6(.i. A match in the captain's tourney was also played. Dr. T. W. J. Johnson (13) defeating J. P. A Idled (7) at the 19th. Aldred, who was round in 77, went to the ISth 1 up and seeing his opponent in tho bunker with his second stroke played for a sale five, but Dr. Johimn made a lino recovery, and won the liolo with a four. Aldred missed his tee shot on tho 19th and Johnson won the match with a five. AUCKLAND LADIES' CLUB. J. Smeeton with an excellent card of 83, 18—bo. Smeeton is only a second-year player and his performance in finishing bis strokes better than tho scratch score is somewhat remarkable. J. D. The A grade match was won by Mrs Preston, who carried the flag to the 18th green. Tho B grado match was won by Mrs. Peznro, who took the flag to the 18th hole. Mrs. Kingsland won the C grade match, taking tho flag to the 18th hole. GLENDOWIE CLUB. Some goo 1 scores were handed in by members in matches played at the Glendowio golf linkß yesterday.
