CYCLING.

ROAD COMPETITIONS. AUCKLAND AMATEUR CLUB. Ten riders competed in the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club's race of 8J miles on Saturday. Weather conditions were unfavourable and times were consequently slower than those in the previous contest over the same distance. The wet road surfaces proved treacherous and two riders fell. Results are aB follows: I. C. Laloli, lm 30s, 1; B. Scott, 2m. 2; C. May, 3in, 3. Fastest time was recorded by H. M. McElroy, scr, in 23m 245. MANUKAU AMATEUR CLUB. The Manukau Amateur Cycling Club found road-racing conditions fairly difficult on Saturday, when a junior event of 7} miles, three laps, and a senior race of 10 miles, four laps, were decided. lhe junior race was the first long event for this division of the season and attracted a field of 11. To commemorate the occasion an enthusiast donated a gold medal for the winner. The successful juniors were:— H. V. Gordon, scr (23m 12s), 1: I. C. Bellini, 30s (23m 42 l-ss). 2; J. H. McLachlan, scr (23m 12 2-ss), 3; G. A. I. Thompson, 50s (24m 3s), 4. Gordons win from scratch gave him fastest time honours. An interesting race was witnessed in the senior event, in which 13 started. The limit riders were K. N. Clark, P. H. Baston and P. H. Hyde, while R. G. Poubister was the lone scratch rider. Clark, riding extremely well for a beginner, finished 46 seconds behind the winner. The placed seniors were:—R. T. Baston, 3m 30s (30m 425), 1; C. Rae, 4m • 30s (32m 15s). 2: K. N. Clark, sm. (32m 58s), 3: R. G. Foubister, Bcr (28m 235), 4. Fastest time. 28m 23b, was recorded by R. G. Foubister, scr, who finished lm lis behind the winner. AUCKLAND CLUB. The Auckland Cycle Club's 2G miles race over four circuits of a GJ-miles block on Saturday proved a very gruelling contest. Of the fourteen starters, J. H. Wade and S. Litchfield shared the scratch mark, giving away starts up to 9m 30s. The finish was fought out between Willcox, Rae and Lowndes, the first-named winning his first race of the season by a length, with two lengths between the next two finishers. Results are as follows-C. Willcox, 4m 30s, 1: K. Rae, sm, 2; F. Lowndes, 7m 30s. 3: J. Jacob. 3m, 4. J. H. Wade outsprinted S. Litchfield to account for fastest time honours in lh 34m Ba. Wade finished 2m 21s behind the "winner.
