AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

SAVIDAN WINS STEEPLECHASE The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club continued its winter competitions at the Domain on Saturday when some keen Taring resulted. J. W. Savidan made his reappearance and easily accounted for the 2i miles steeplechase from scratch. Close finishes resulted in the 5 75yds sprint, while E. Wheeler won the discus throw with 118 ft 11 in., the best throw_ this season. At the conclusion of the meeting, the president, Mr. W. Morton, presented the winners with Bilver cups. j Results are as follows: 75Yds. Handicap.—First heat: E. N. Muir. 7}yds, 1: H. R. McNeil. 15yds. 2; R. J. Willey, s}yds, 3. Steeplechase, 21 miles.—There were 17 competitors. A. Clark was the limit man on 180s," and was nearly one lap ahead when Savidan started on his long chase. Clark still led on the third round with Savidan rapidly cloning on the field. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS' RUN

In spile of the unsettled weather there was a full muster of 'harriers of the Technical College Old Boys' Athletic Club on Saturday. An exceptionally gruelling course of over eight miles at Northcote was undertaken and the runners were tried to the utmost, some of the fences and swamps being particularly, difficult. "Afternoon tea was supplied by Mrs. Towr.shend at the conclusion of the run. The run-in resulted as follows:—S. J. Gudsell, 1; L. C.'Barker, 2: W. J. Murray. 3: R. G. Kirkwood, 4; R. W. Longworth, 5; G. Kells, 6. CALLIOPE CLUB. The Calliope Harrier Club held a sealed handicap over a difficult cross-country course of four miles on Saturdny. Conditions were bad. the 'going being particularly heavy. The first four to finish were:— A. Rowland. 24m 24a; A. E. Clayton, 24m 335; G. S. Wcngdell, 24m 475; A. H. Eyre, 24m 48s. UNIVERSITY CLUB. Members of the University Ilarrier Club held ri cross-country run on Saturday around the Mount Wellinjjron district. Tho runners were divided into two packs and then ioinea' up for a race in over 600 yards. The handican race resulted in n close win for N. F. Cooper from J. Magee, with A. R. Bill, G. Ross, J. Graham und C. Copeland following in that order.
