AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
WINTER COMPETITIONS. Winter competitions wore continued at the Domain 011 Saturday afternoon under the control of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. Keen racing resulted in the running events, and tlio field events were well patronised. The steeplechnse resulted in a win for AV. G. Thompson, a Technical College hoy, who is making his first appearance this season as a distance runner. Results are as follows: 75 Yards Handicap.—First heat: A. ,T. Campbell, 7yds, 1; J. C. Tipping, 12yds, 2; W. G. Thompson, 7Jyds, 3. Time, 7 3-ss. Second heat: J. V. Keddle, 61yds, 1: M. Matthews, lOjyds, 2: .T. W. Turnbull. Byds, 3. Time, 7 3-ss. Final: A. J. Campbell, 1: J. V. Keddle, 2; \V. O. Thompson, 3. Only inches separated the field Time, 7 3-ss. _ 11 Miles Steeplechase.—W. G. Thompson, 70s, 1; 11. D. McXeil, Gss, 2; G. W. Rogers, 555, 3. "Won by 3yds. Time, 7rn 51 l-ss. Roger's actual time for the race was Cm 55 l-ss, and he was awarded fastest time. Wheeler, the limit man, led the field for two-thirds of the distance. Opposite the grandstand he had a good lead when he sprained his nnkle. Three hundred yards from the post Rogers appeared to have the race won but he was challenged by McNiel and Thompson.
