HARRIER RACING.
CALLIOPE CLUB'S EVENTS. The Calliope Harrier Club held two races on Saturday afternoon. The first race to be decided was the "veterans' " handicap of •2J miles, over two laps of a difficult course, covering both road and country. Tho result was:—A. Rowland (GOs), 17m 13S, 1; A. Clayton (70s), 17m 'lis, 12; .1. Wengdal ('10s), 17m .'Ms, ,'i; J. Silvester ((50s), lPm ss, 4. A. Rowland, who won by 150 yds, also made fastest time. Tito novices were despatched over the same course, Gilfillan and TX Silvester (a member of the Hamilton Club), on limit. 70s, setting a fast pace. Silvester was still in tho lead at the end of tho first lap. He maintained tho lead dnrintr tho last, lap. winning very comfortably, Smith, who had run an excellent race, being second. The result was as follows:—J. Silvester (Hamil'on). (70s), 17m 21s, 1; D. Smith (scr), 17m ss, 2; G. Davidson (Wis). 19m ss. ,1; W. McCombe (scr), 18m lis, 4: R. Woodham (50), 10m (is, 5; H. Turner (50s), 19m 19s, (i. Fastest time was made by D. Smith. Tie also won tho trophy presented by Mr. J. P. McPhail. UNIVERSITY CLUR. The University Harrier C'lub held a run at Avondale on Saturday. The course was very typical cross-country, a distance of seven miles. There were 35 runners who divided into two packs, but united for tho run-in of 440 yds. Results were:—J. Henderson, ]; A. R. Hill, 2; J. l.f'igee, .1; J. C Graham, 4; R. Linn, 5; B. W. Spooner, G. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS' CLUR. The Technical College Old Boys' Club held a run over six miles at Mission Bay on Saturday and fine form was shown by Hjnso taking part. The course included a large proportion of hill country, but good results were obtained. A feature, of tho run was the promise of two of the juniors who finished second and third in the run-in which resulted as follows:—S. J. Gudsell, 1; W. Pearson, 2; K. Gillespie, 3; L. C. Barker, 4; A. Moon, 5; R. Kirkwood, 6.
