NO FEAR FOR FUTURE.

MR. FORBES' CONFIDENCE.

DIFFICULTIES TO BE FACED. REVISING LIVING STANDARDS. [UY TELEGRAPH. —riIESS ASSOCIATION. ] CII RJSTCHUItCII. Sunday. "I have 110 fear for the future of New Zealand," said tlio Prime Minister, the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, in the course of his speech at the Christchurch Boys' High School jubilee dinner last evening. To take over the affairs of the country with an empty chest had required a pretty good sporting spirit, added Mr. Forbes. There were difficult times ahead, but the people had enough grit and determination to face and overcome them. "I am confident that it is in our power to meet our troubles and overcome them," said tlio Prime Minister. "In the first place, wo have one of the finest countries in the world. No other country is as good in climate, fertility and the people who inhabit it. I am confident that we can face our difficulties with the same dogged determination as our boys did at the front. They were looked upon 'as the most determined and most courageous of all the troops. "Spirit was shown at tlio time of tlio war and I am sure that same spirit will be shown against the difficulties of tlio present time. We have to put up with the fact that our incomes havo been cut considerably. I can speak for that, for I am a farmer and I know what it is like. But we recognise that thrso things have to bo met and that \vi havo to adjust our standards accordingly.

"J 11 1882 when I attended the Boys' High School," continued M-r. Forbes, "there wero very few sixpences or shillings for the boys going to school, but tlicy enjoyed themselves none the less. Enjoyment consists in tho way you look at things and tho spirit in which you take them. If wo have to curtail things still further, as probably wo will in future, we should be able to gel just as much enjoyment in every way."
