BURMESE REBELS.

FIFTEEN DEATH SENTENCES. TRANSPORTATION FOR 56. (Received May 10. 5.5 p.m.) CALCUTTA. May 9. A special tribunal sitting at Pyapun, Lower Burma, sentenced 15 Burmese rebels to death and 56 to transportation for life on charges of waging war against the King, also of- conspiracy. Twentyfour others were acquitted.

Tho Commissioners recommended to mercy those sentenced to transportation, as in their opinion strong intimidation was used by tho leaders toward the rank and file, whoso credulity and ignorance were abominably exploited.
