AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

SECOND WINTER MEETING. CONTESTS ON OUTER DOMAIN. The Auckland Amateur Athletic nnd Cycle Club held iho second of its winter competitions on the Outer Domain giound on Saturday, when a sprint race, a steeplechase and two field events were decided. There were good entries in each event, wlulo a fair crowd of spectators watched the contests. Results of tho races were as follows: 75 Yards Sprint.—First heat: R. Poorc, 1; E. J. Wheeler. 2; J. Green. 3. lime, 7' 3-ss. Won by a yard, a foot between second and third. Second heat: J. \V, Turnbull, 1; J. -N. lveddle, 2: W. Miller. 3. Time, 7 3-ss. Won by a foot, a similar distance between second and third, b nal: J. N. Keddle. 1; W. Miller. 2; E.J. Wheeler and R. Poore, tie. 3. Tune, 7 There were only inches between the placed men. One Mile and a-half Steeplechase.—J. Francis, 1; H. McNeil, 2; J. Nicholson, 3; E. J. Wheeler, 4, Time, 8m 445. xhe fastest time was registered by J. Nicholson in 7m 245. Matthews, Clarke and Wheeler led at the end of the first lap, although the back men were gradually creeping ip on the field. McNeil was running prominently nnd took the lead as they raced up the hill. As they passed the grandstand McNeil was still leading, and it seemed evident that lie would win, but Francis increased his stride, which brought hiin level with the leader. At fctase the field was very close together. Francis sprinted and went on to win by four yards, similar distance between second and third. Putting 10lb. Shot.-—J. W. Tiiinbull. j : T. Elliott. 2; J.
