NOTES' ON THE EOIIM. MERRY DAMON AT HIS BEST. EASY WIN FOR ZIPPOR. [bt "eleguaph. —own correspondent.] ! HAWERA, Thursday. Wallaruh was a hot favourite for the hack uprint at- Hawera to-day and scored decisively. Wal'aruh had the race won entering the straight and easily overhauled the leaders, Singer and Orby's Choice. Orhj s Choice faded badly. Kissless looks an improver /ippor repealed his first day .i peiform-Bin-e in the/ hurdles, going to the fioilt filter tho first fence and staying theie. He dirl not jump quite well as yesterday, hut won by a big margin, /.ippor was never in danger. Fine Acre finished <>n fioni a long way hack. Ben:iaiice should come right, -j.-ith experience.

Tim horses ran true to form in the Adamlon Steeplechase with the exception that n substantial improvement- in Ntikuniai s.iu bins divide Omeo and Hiikbeck at the finish. Omeo and Nuktimai were always in front and Omeo drew away at the finish. Oiueo made one faulty junip early, but afteivards was always going well. Ntikuniai shaped much better than usual. Birkbcck ran well and was finishing on. Auroia 3'orealis made a bold showing, but made a ■faulty jump at the sod wall ill both rounds nnd that knocked her back The others were outclassed. Awaken was a pronounced favourite in the open spiint,. but the unexpected happened. Uidgeniouut' got .i move out of the barrier and was never caught, The others were flat 'nit all the way Awaken finished strongly, but the effort was unavailing to overcome the initial handicap. Awakeu's backers were unlucky:

Leisure finished ur> u hot favourite in the Rack S/'iiny. but after having every chance '•'mid only divide honouis with Manifesto Manifesto, going very fast at the finish, would have won in another stride. Crimeslor tnd every chance out in front. Merry Damon, favourite for the Davidson Handicap, put up a fine performance to win as he had to get up through a big bunch from the entrance to the straight. Hopwood. Silverniine, Calamine and Paitonu were in line at the last furlong, but Merry Damon then dashed up and scored solidly The winner is back to his best form. Calaiiiiiitt's shewing was a surprise. Silverniine had every chance. lie cannot cany weight. Nightmare scored a comfortable win in the concluding event. Slut drew No. 1- position and gut out well She settled down behind Miss Shef to the straight and then won easily. The pace set by Miss Shef had .the held well strung out. The winner stayed on well, showing much improvement, on Marton form. Malahat also finished well.
